In the realm of AI and computing, breakthroughs and innovations are the lifeblood that fuel progress. Today, we stand on the threshold of a new era, powered by a transformative platform that promises to revolutionize the way we approach AI and computing. NVIDIA recently announced the arrival of the NVIDIA Blackwell platform, set to usher in a new age of real-time generative AI and accelerated computing.
The Blackwell GPU architecture, named in honor of David Harold Blackwell, a renowned mathematician who specialized in game theory and statistics, introduces six transformative technologies for accelerated computing. These technologies promise to unlock breakthroughs in diverse fields such as data processing, engineering simulation, electronic design automation, computer-aided drug design, quantum computing, and generative AI.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, describes generative AI as "the defining technology of our time". The Blackwell platform, he asserts, will power this new industrial revolution, helping to realize the promise of AI across every industry.
The Blackwell platform is already gaining traction amongst major organizations including Amazon Web Services, Dell Technologies, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, Tesla, and xAI. With the Blackwell platform, these organizations will be able to build and run real-time generative AI on trillion-parameter large language models, all at a significantly reduced cost and energy consumption - up to 25x less than its predecessor.
The Blackwell GPU architecture features world’s most powerful chip packed with 208 billion transistors. The architecture also introduces a second-generation Transformer Engine, a fifth-generation NVLink for seamless high-speed communication, a RAS engine for reliability and serviceability, advanced confidential computing capabilities for secure AI, and a decompression engine for accelerated data analytics and data science.
The NVIDIA GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip is another key component of this platform. It connects two NVIDIA B200 Tensor Core GPUs to the NVIDIA Grace CPU over a 900GB/s ultra-low-power NVLink chip-to-chip interconnect. The advent of the NVIDIA Blackwell platform represents a significant leap forward in the realm of AI and computing. It promises to transform the way we approach AI, offering unprecedented opportunities for innovation and progress. With Blackwell, NVIDIA continues to push the boundaries of what is possible, powering a new era of computing that promises to reshape our world.
